Baby and wool, a source of irritation?
Do you remember those cheap, itchy wool sweaters you wore as a child?
When we talk about wool sweaters, that's still the first thing that comes to mind, isn't it? I can tell you that the wool used was absolutely not merino wool.
It was most often virgin wool, which tends to be scratchy and itchy.
This is not the case for merino wool baby clothes: the merino wool fiber is very, very fine, which gives it that silky and comfortable feel on the skin.
Merino wool respects the skin of toddlers, even when used for a child suffering from eczema or other skin conditions.
I will even go further and tell you that there is nothing better for babies than clothes made of pure merino wool (untreated wool, of course :-)): the properties of merino wool mean that baby will not itch, or be too hot, or too cold.
As you will have understood, merino wool is not irritating for babies. However, virgin wool or other types of wool can be irritating.
To choose baby clothes wisely, I advise you to:
- Choose clothes made of pure merino wool, organic if possible (untreated)
- For underwear, why not a wool & silk blend, which makes the garment fine, soft, and silky. For example, the brand Cosilana offers underwear in wool & silk or wool, organic cotton & silk.
