How to care for your wool garments?
Have you bought Manymonths or Disana wool clothing and have questions about how to care for your favorite pieces?
We'll give you all the tips for easily caring for your merino wool clothing.
Keratin: the magical molecule found in wool
In our article on the properties and benefits of merino wool, we explained that wool fibers have their own "washing machine": keratin. This protein molecule contained in merino fibers simply breaks down odor-causing bacteria.
Result: your garment is self-cleaning, there's no need to wash it as regularly as a cotton or polyester garment. Remember to air it regularly and you'll see that odors disappear.
How to wash merino wool clothing?
- You should hand wash your merino wool garments in lukewarm water with a wool detergent or a gentle baby shampoo, then rinse at the same temperature (very important to respect the fiber).
- After washing, press the garment in a towel to remove excess water and lay it flat to dry.
- You can also machine wash it at 30°C on a wool program, but we do not recommend this unless you have a recent machine.
- To maintain the best qualities, it is necessary to treat the garment occasionally with a lanolin treatment.
- Wash separately or with similar colors.
- Tip: do not use special wool detergents found in supermarkets (the ingredients are not always good for the fiber).
Wool clothing: what to do in case of a stain?
Yes, it can happen with our garments ;)
You don't have to wash it completely: run the stained part under water (lukewarm water, of course) and gently rub with your special wool shampoo. If you have an eco-friendly stain remover soap, that also works.
Remember to rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
